How To Download, Install, & Use Mods! (With Forge) [GUIDE]
Hello! It is me, Sublime, and I am here to helpyouuse mods, or modifications in Minecraft! Using mods is very simple and easy, but at first, it can be highly confusing for some players. Before I begin telling you how to do this, I want to get a few things out of the way.
Now that I have those few things out of the way, let’s begin!
~Step 1: Install Forge~
If you want to use mods, you are going to need to have something that will make them work, such as Forge. Here is the link the link to the page where you can download forge:https://files.minecraftforge.net/?forums
IF YOU HAVE NOT INSTALLED JAVA, WHICH IS NEEDED FOR FORGE, CLICK HERE. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE INSTALLER, AND YOU WILL HAVE TO USE THIS INSTALLER TO DOWNLOAD JAVA. IT SHOULD NOT TAKE LONG AT ALL.
Click on 1.8, which can be found on the sidebar to the left of your screen. Then, click on 1.8.9 from the drop box. (1.8.9 is the most useful for PvP and Hypixel.)
Click on “Installer” which I have circled in red.
DON’T CLICK ANYTHING ON THIS PAGE UNLESS IT’S A “SKIP” BUTTON. THIS IS AN AD. ALSO, DON’T ALLOW THEM TO SEND NOTIFICATIONS.
You should start installing Forge. You may get a message that says that it may be dangerous, but trust me, it’s not.
Drag the Forge Installer onto your desktop.
Double-click the Forge Installer, and you should see this:
Make sure that you have selected “Install client” and then click “OK”
It should download:
Nice job! Now it’t time to install OptiFine!
~Step 2: Install OptiFine~
OptiFine is 1 of the most important mods, as it adds a zoom feature where you can see things from the other side of the map up close. It also adds way more options to help you customize the game and make your fps way better. (Or way worse… Choose the correct options.) And it adds capes! (That you have to buy…)
When you open this page, there will be lots of options on what version of OptiFine that you can install. Scroll down until you see “Minecraft 1.8.9” Obviously, click the “Download” button on the latest 1.
Once again, DON’T CLICK ANYTHING on this page. This is an ad, not the mod that you want to download. Press the “Skip” button.
Select the “Download OptiFine” button, then answer to keep the file, as this is not dangerous.
After you are done with this, minimize the page and drag what you just downloaded onto your desktop.
Double click on OptiFine, what you just put on your desktop, and you should see this:
Choose “Install” and it should be installed quickly.
Nice job installing OptiFine!
OptiFine is really the only safe mod that you can use, so I am going to go ahead and tell you how to play on it now. If you go to your Minecraft launcher and go to “Installations”, you should see an option to play OptiFine. If not, create a new installation and you should see it there. If you need help with this, click here.
~Step 3: Other Mods~
There are many other mods that you can install and use. However, when using these mods, you need to be careful that you do not install any hacks, or mods that give you unfair advantages in games. Before you install any kind of mod, make sure that you readthis thread.
Keystrokes and QuickPlay are mods that many players use, and they are something that I recommend. To install these mods, just download it, bring the download to your desktop, then do something with them that I am going to explain in a bit.
What are Keystrokes? A keystrokes mod is a mod that shows what buttons you are pressing, such as WASD & spacebar, and they can also show your fps and cps. Sk1er’s Keystrokes Mod by @Sk1er
What is QuickPlay? Quickplay is a mod that allows you to easily join a game without having to press on all of those NCPs. With this mod, you can make it where you can join a specific game by only pressing 1 button on your keyboard! Bugfroggy’s QuickPlay Mod by @bugfroggy
Now that you have installed these mods, it’s time to be able to play in the game with them! To do this, you will need to place those mod files into your mods folder.
To open up your mods folder, press your Windows key/button.
Then, type the word “run” into your search bar.
Open up run, then type in %appdata% into the popup that appears.
Open up your .minecraft folder.
Unless you already have a mods folder, right click, select “New”, then select “Folder”, and then name that folder “mods”.
Open up your mods folder, then place your mods in there.
Nice job on getting your mods together!
~Step 4: Playing With Your Mods~
Time to play!
Epic job on getting all of those mods ready to use!
To play with your mods, open up your Minecraft launcher. Click on “Installations” and you should see Forge 1.8.9 there. If not, create a new installation and you should be able to choose it. If you need help with this, click here to see a thread I already made about playing different Minecraft versions.
Thank you for reading!
