How to speed up download for Call of Duty: Warzone Season 6 update
If you are running Wi-Fi and are having trouble getting to a reasonable speed for the update Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone season 6, then you should probably switch to LAN server.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone have been somewhat removed from the spotlight amid all the next-generation and black-ops Cold War news. Infinity Ward is yet to finish the game. It still remains a very healthy player community and continues to dominate the Twitch charts as well. Fans of the game have also been worried about the longevity of modern warfare, despite the Cold War coming soon from Black Ops.
Infinity Ward has announced a great update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone. The upcoming season 6 update comes at a time when things started to feel a bit similar to the last one. This is particularly good timing for people who felt that they had lost experience with Modern Warfare after playing Cold War Alpha.
Further, with Black Ops coming soon, Activision has to move something and integrate Warzone in the new game too. And the Modern Warfare season 6 update also contains some content (Hint: Zombies) that will help bridge the gap. This is also one of the biggest updates we have received yet.
Season 6 brings a prettyhefty package for Modern Warfare and Warzone. This includes new operators, a new Battle Pass, new maps and an entirely new GameMechanical. Verdansk has for the first time received a Metro System that will help players with transportation much faster around the map. So no more stuck in a corner of the map with the circle pressing in.
Surprise! Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 6 update is huge.
Even my nan knows now that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a storage hog. The game can hold over 200 GB of total and it gets worse with every new update. No one knows why things are the way they are, but with limited storage on most consoles it is becoming increasingly difficult to store Modern Warfare, with other games also.
And to make things worse, the update delivery system for modern warfare and Warzone is also one of the worst in the industry. With every new update, the game needs double the space for downloading and installing it. For some reason, the update files can’t simply integrate into the game seamlessly, and sometimes require over 90 GB of free space to download an update.
It was not a surprise to anyone with this in mind when Infinity Ward announced the download size for the updated Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 6. This is one of the biggest updates that the game has received over the past few months and perhaps some space should be opened for it.
The update is 19 GB on PlayStation 4, while the Xbox One version gets a even larger download of 22.6 GB. It gets even worse on PCs, where you must download 57 GB for Modern Warfare and 25 GB for Warzone.
Not only that, but players will also have to download the additional compatibility packs for Multiplayer and Special Ops. These add an additional 14 GB of download space, making the total of the card much bigger than some full-size games. And while PS4 players will hopefully be able to pre-load the update, Activision has left PC and Xbox One gamers behind in the dust.
Modern Warfare updates have notoriously terrible download speeds.
Since everyone is trying to download the same big update every time a new season comes out, the server space gets a lot bogged down. This results in some extremely slow download speeds for players which result in the update requiring dozens of hours to complete. Most players struggle to even exceed 500 KB/s download speed and that’s pretty bad considering the huge size of Modern Warfare and Warzone updates.
There are a few things you can do to increase your download speeds for Season 6 update of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone. These methods have worked well with previous updates for players in the past, and you may be able to try them this time out as well. So if you do not want to be left behind when testing the new update, make sure to try these fixes.
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare season 6 downloading using a VPN:
When the update comes live around the world it seems like Activision servers just melt into goo. Nothing seems to work and everybody gets awful download speeds. And while Activision should have learned by now and should have increased its server capacity, we would not put any bets on it.
For some reason, the players in Europe and the UK get sunk mainly when it comes to download speeds. If that is true, the comparison to americans usually looks much better. Although it isn’t ideal that a huge chunk of the player base does not have good server sources to download from, US would make sense better since the player base is much bigger there.
So, to avoid the slow download speeds with EU or UK servers, you can install a VPN and switch locations for a server change. We would recommend using an East Coast USA server location for your VPN, as it has proved to offer the most consistent download speeds in the past. If you are having trouble in the United States, try the same thing again but with a different location.
There are plenty of services for the VPN itself. Some VPN services like Nord and Express are very robust and feature rich, but aren’t free. While others like Hotspot Shield can be downloaded for free but can yield varying results.
2. Turn back to Google DNS:
The issue is often nothing at all with the game servers. Rather it is your own internet service provider that blocks your download speeds. Moreover, region and location settings can also have a pretty huge impact on your download speed.
Normally your ISP will assign you a DNS server which will translate the website name into IP addresses. Many of these assigned DNS services are not much better and aren’t the fastest at deciphering things on the Internet. They may be good for your local area and some popular sites, but you should always switch to a more robust DNS service if you can.
Many players have reported that simply changing their DNS settings led to much faster download speeds for Call of Duty – Modern Warfare – and Warzone updates. It would not be a huge omission if doing the same thing could also boost the download bandwidth for the Season 6 update.
There are lots of DNS services available on the Internet. CloudFlare DNS provides better protection and ad blockage capabilities while surfing the internet. However, most people would agree that Google’s offering is probably the most reliable and reliable in terms of speed.
To switch to Google DNS, go to Network Settings and select the option to manually configure the DNS. Now enter the 22.214.171.124 in the Primary DNS slot and then set the Secondary DNS to 126.96.36.199 You can use Google DNS on your phone and computer for non-gaming items as well.
3. Using a wired connection :
Whether you download games or play them online, having a direct connection with your router is an absolute must. While your own Wi-Fi router could be good enough for fast data transfers, the Wi-Fi cards inside the PS4 and Xbox One are not exactly fast.
Also, if you run on Wi-Fi and have trouble to get to a reasonable speed for downloading Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 6 patch, then you probably should change to LAN. These consoles are pretty poor at picking up Wi-Fi signals and never use your fancy router anyways.
In addition, if you are not wireless with 5 GHz Wifi anyways, there’s no point in trying to squeeze the fastest out of it. Simply connect an Ethernet cable from your router to PS4/Xbox One/PC and notice immediately better download speeds and lower latency.

4. Everything is rebooted :
If none of the fixes above have worked for you then there is no harm to try the old reliable. Sometimes even something as simple as turning it off and back on can help. If you are experiencing problems with download speeds on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 6 patch, turn everything off and start fresh.
If you still use a router supplied by your ISP, chances are it is not very good. These routers are built to do the minimum and are not loaded with extra bells and whistles. Also, this means fewer features and quite low processing power. So if you connect a lot of devices to the router it can get overloaded and lose all the information. But giving it a fresh start can resolve these problems.
In addition to that, in your router settings you can also turn on things like QoS and prioritizing your PS4 or Xbox One to improve download speeds. Last but not least, start your console to be sure and hopefully this time with better servers.
